Usually there are 2 different types of gold necklace. One is gold-filled, and another is gold-plated. Gold-filled necklace is basically made-up of a tube of 18 to 22-karat of gold-filled with base metals which are formed through the heat bonded process. On the other hand, a gold-plated necklace only consists of thin film or layer of gold covering the base metals done through the electroplating process. When you weigh and consider between those two, obviously gold-filled necklace is much better than the plated ones not only in terms of purity but also durability factor because the thin film can easily chipped off.
